Writing and Reading in Math
As we have in the
past every Wednesday is open-ended problem solving day at Rush
School. However, this year we have added something new to the
second period of math on Wednesdays. We have begun a writing and
reading in Math component within our math program. As a result once
a week we will be using our writing and reading skills to further
enhance our math skills.
Glyphs
Just as a graph
conveys information about collected data, a glyph displays collected
information in the form of a picture. The details within the
picture describe information about the person who created it.
Following a legend, students in Mrs. Johnson’s and Mrs. Fest’s math
class created tee-shirt glyphs during their Writing and Reading, in
Math period. They then exchanged tee-shirts and wrote paragraphs
about the information they gathered from reading the glyph. The
students hope you enjoy reading their glyphs.

Newspaper Math
The students in
Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Fest’s class searched the newspaper to
find how mathematics is used in our daily lives. The end
results made a very informative bulletin board as you can see.
Oh What A
Transformation
