The 8th grade girls’ basketball team is one game away from their season goal of a league championship. On Monday, 2/13, the girls played an up-and-down game in the playoff semi-finals but were able to hold strong in a 24-22 win against Moorestown.

The game was very low scoring, 12-8 at halftime, which definitely played into Moorestown's hands. In the third quarter, Moorestown made a run at the Pirates and took a 2 point lead. However, Christine Gannon hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer from just inside half court, a shot that gave the Pirates some much needed momentum going into the 4th quarter. Then the girls did just enough in the final quarter to escape with the victory.

The girls' focus is now on the final obstacle standing between them and a league championship. That obstacle is Delran, who defeated Northern Burlington in the other playoff semi-final.

The championship game against Delran will be held on Wednesday at 5:00pm (appx.) and is scheduled to be played at Northern Burlington.

On 2/1 the girls turned in their most impressive defensive performance of the seasons so far in a decisive 37-18 victory at home over Moorestown, a potential playoff opponent for the Pirates.Moorestown’s attempt to slow the game down kept the game close for a time, but the Pirates’ tremendous defense held strong, and some clutch outside shooting allowed the team to take total control of the game in the second half on the way to the victory.
