St. Charles Borromeo School

Art

Happy new year and welcome to art in 2008. Well here we are half way through the year with so much to explore.

Here are a few things we will be doing in the near future.

Pre- Kindergarten, Kindergarten and First Grades

We have begun with primary and secondary colors.  We will be experimenting with stencils and tracing.  The pre-kindergarten and kindergarten enjoy starting each class with a short story that we then use art supplies to express ourselves.  Watercolors and weaving are something we are working on together.  We will be using our creativity to begin learning about stained glass. We will be making lovable mice, valentines and loopy snakes.  Look for our stain glass hearts (PreK), Cat albums (1st) and watercolor weaving(K) to come home soon.

Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Grades

We are working hard on many new ideas in art.  I have been very impressed with my classes and their enjoyment in the arts.  Their enthusiasm shows in their projects.  We have just completed our shine on project  and shape rubbings with the second grade. We will be beginning  to study the artist Gustav Klimt and creating quilt patterns in art.  Third grade have been working on printing patterns that occur in fabrics and nature.  We will be experimenting with paint and string and marbles.  In the fourth grade we are finishing our negative positive are with watercolors. They are turning out beautiful.  We will be exploring sculpture next.  In the fifth grade things have just finished up with our optical illusions.  They are hanging in the  fine arts hallway!  Come see.  To celebrate the Chinese New Year we will be tiring origami.

  Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Grades

In my middle school classes I always try to attempt some interesting art, as well as study some neat artist.  In the sixth grade we just completed Non-Objective art.  The students did a great job and they are hanging in the fine arts hallway, come and see.    We will be moving on to lanterns with paper cutting to celebrate Chinese New Year.   The seventh grade began the new year with perspective.    They used their understanding in their Catholic School posters that are hanging around our school.  We have now begun paper weaving and will be moving onto 3-d weaving with nature. Wish us luck.  The eighth tried their hand at still life drawing and I think surprised themselves.  We will be working on self-portraits and painting in the near future.
