Preschool Lottery & Registration
Preschool Lottery & Registration
Cinnaminson Township Public School District offers free, full-day preschool to all Cinnaminson children who are age 3 or 4 on or before October 1st.
Unfortunately, the district does not currently have classroom space to serve every 3 or 4 year old child in the township, therefore children are selected to participate using a lottery system.
Using the HighScope curriculum, students are taught pre-academic skills to prepare them to enter kindergarten the following year.

Preschool FAQs
The purpose of the Preschool Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) is to provide important, timely information to parents regarding our new Preschool classrooms for 2026-2027. The new Preschool classrooms are being funded by PEA, Preschool Expansion Aid, and thus will be referred to as PEA classrooms at various points throughout this FAQ.
If you have questions that are not included in this FAQ, send your questions via email to Sherry R. Spier, Director of Early Childhood Education: Contact Sherry Spier

PEA is an acronym for Preschool Expansion Aid. It is a recent initiative by the State of New Jersey, with the goal of providing funding for high-quality preschool classrooms in public schools. More information about PEA and other New Jersey preschool topics can be found at the following link: NJ DOE Preschool Information
-
For our purposes, the terms are used interchangeably, referring to a classroom or program designed for students that are 3 years old or 4 years old.
-
Students must be 3 or 4 by the district cutoff date of October 1 to be eligible for the PEA classrooms. If a student is 5 or older on October 1, they are not eligible.
-
If a child turns 5 after the cutoff date of October 1, that child is still eligible to be part of the preschool program for the remainder of the school year.
-
Yes. If a student is selected, the parent or guardian must provide proof of residency in Cinnaminson.
-
The lottery is a standardized process implemented by Cinnaminson Township Schools when there are more interested families than seats available in a designated year. Families will submit a form annually to enter the lottery, which will use a computerized random selection system for admission to the preschool program. Once all seats are filled, those names still remaining are placed on a waitlist that will remain open during the designated school year in the order of random selection. Waitlists do not carry over from year to year. If a family is placed on a waitlist during a given school year and no openings arise, they will need to enter the lottery again the subsequent year.
-
The preschool lottery for the 2026-27 school year will open on January 26, 2026.
-
Families will be notified of their child’s status on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
-
No. If your child is selected for a PEA seat for 2026-27, you cannot put that selection “on hold” until next year. The selection for 2026-27 only counts for 2026-27. We will have a new lottery for 2027-28.
-
No, your child would not be guaranteed a seat for next year if you decline for the current year. We will hold a new lottery prior to each school year.
-
Yes, once a student is awarded a slot, they are guaranteed a slot in the program until they transition to full-day Kindergarten.
-
Families with twins or triplets will get one lottery number for 2 or 3 spots.
-
While we understand the concern, due to limited availability of seats and an expected waitlist, children are classified as 3, 4, or 5 (Kindergarten) by their age on October 1, 2026. We will not make exceptions to this. We encourage you to enroll your child in our Kindergarten program when Kindergarten registration opens on Monday, February 2, 2026.
